Dubai will introduce new restrictions on truck movements across the emirate from October 1, 2026, as authorities look to reduce congestion during busy traffic periods.
The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), together with Dubai Police, will implement the restrictions on several major roads. Emirates Road will not be covered by the new restrictions.
Truck movement restrictions are already in place on a number of roads across Dubai, with timings varying depending on traffic conditions, road capacity and congestion levels.
Some roads and locations have restrictions throughout the day. These include Al Qudra Street, Al Meydan Street, all crossings and the Airport Tunnel
Other major routes, including Sheikh Zayed Road and Beirut Street as well as residential areas such as Al Mizhar, Muhaisnah and Oud Al Muteena have truck restrictions for 16 hours a day, from 6am to 10pm
On roads such as Airport Street, Oman Street and Damascus Street, trucks face restrictions during three peak traffic periods:
6:30am to 8:30am
1pm to 3pm
5:30pm to 8pm
According to the RTA, the measures are aimed at easing traffic congestion, making better use of existing road capacity, reducing travel times and improving the overall efficiency of Dubai’s road network.
The RTA, in coordination with Dubai Police and other authorities, will also launch an awareness campaign to inform motorists and transport operators about the new restrictions, including the affected roads, timings and alternative routes.
